Vitamin D3 – also known as the "sunshine vitamin" – can only be produced by the body when sufficient sunlight reaches the skin. Unlike vitamin D3, the body cannot produce the trace element selenium itself, which is why it must be supplied through the diet. Like vitamin C, it helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
